"It might be a bad idea to drink with the likes of us, don't you think? There could be rumors that the Prince is drinking with oddball mages."
Valerie raises a small doubt. You don't recall seeing mages and witches interacting with other groups much.
"Ahhh, well, that's probably true. I, for one, am usually by myself."
Valerie ponders the question before answering.
"Why don't I mingle with other groups? You caught me off guard with that one."
Grinning at the question, Valerie gazes at his staff.
"I don't feel this way myself, but perhaps there's some sort of fear involved? Maybe it's that, as with other mages, excessive power gives rise to feelings of solitude. I use this power to defeat monsters, so it's a necessary evil. Still, it's natural that causing flames to arise from out of nowhere would instill fear."
As he speaks, he gazes at his staff and smiles wryly. It seems as though the light in the orb flickers with his words
Valerie #2 :
"The monsters are growing even stronger than before. Maybe I'll have to get a bit stronger too?"
You had drunk together a few times, and were making small talk when Valerie mentions today's battle. He stares downward as he speaks, as though posing the question to the reflection in his empty glass.
"I'm grateful to this country, this country that has taken me, a mage, in, made me feel needed."
He proceeds to describe, if in fragments, his being persecuted in his home country, and his life until now.
"It may be true that I'm feared around here as well, but some strange folks like you and other mages like me, do come and talk to me. Even if we don't get acquainted, just being able to pass my days normally is my greatest joy."
Valerie describes his habit of looking at street lights before going to sleep. Thinking how much fighting was necessary for those lights to be lit. And now you must defend those lights.
"I want to serve this country that has given my life meaning. And to serve people like you, who would drink with crazy mages like me...till the end."
Taking in those words, you fill his glass. Valerie looks on with a smile.
